Lois Anne MacKay Scripps, wife of Charles E. Scripps Sr., the chairman of the E.W. Scripps Co., died Monday after a two-year illness. She was 62. She married Charles Scripps in 1949 and moved to Cincinnati, where the newspaper and broadcasting company has its headquarters. Mrs. Scripps was active with her husband in causes promoting literacy and, through the Inter American Press Association, worked to promote a free press throughout the Western hemisphere. Mrs. Scripps served as trustee of Thomas More College and Cincinnati Technical Center, and was a horticulturist who developed the grounds of her home, built on former vineyard slopes overlooking the Ohio River.
